Today would have marked the 92nd birthday of stand-up comedy icon Redd Foxx, who managed to be a mainstream sensation on network television after rising to fame with a series of comedy albums that were too blue for the small screen.  He could play clubs at night, indulging in the filthiest of jokes, and still warm his way into America's hearts by hanging out with the whitest of whitebread, as he does below in this 1977 clip from "The Donnie and Marie Show."

Comedian Dick Shawn may be best known today for his roles in THE PRODUCERS and ANGEL, but the talented performer never really found a good share of film parts to suit his abilities.  In this clip from a 1963 episode of "The Judy Garland Show," you can see his diverse, frenetic array of impressions and screwball comedy.  Shawn's energetic nature and random sense of humor (very similar to the style of Robin Williams two decades later) are pretty amazing to watch.  He would have turned 91 today, had he not made the ultimate comedian sacrifice by actually dying on stage in 1987.

After the end of "Wonder Woman" in 1979, Lynda Carter tried her hand at variety shows, hosting several one-shot specials in the early '80s. This glorious musical number comes from her 1980 special, in which Carter indulges in a fantasy that involves covering the likes of noteworthy divas Turner, Midler and Gene Simmons. If Carter's outfit in the Kiss number looks familiar, it may be because Simmons wore essentially the same outfit as a hermaphrodite bent on world domination in NEVER TOO YOUNG TO DIE, surely one of the weirdest cases of costume kismet ever.
