Trailer: The Best of the New York Erotic Film Festival

The New York City Porn Film Festival is currently seeking content for their festival to be held next February, and while they're touting it as the "first annual New York City Porn Film Festival," it's hardly the first of its' kind.  The New York Erotic Film Festival was held for several years in the early '70s, and this (SFW) trailer hosted by producer Ken Gaul hypes a compilation of some of the best of the fest, including Chuck Vincent's THE APPOINTMENT and the animated BURIED TREASURE and EYETOON.

Daily Trailer: Larry Yust's HOMEBODIES (1974)

Why the heck isn't Yust's weirdly sweet and gleefully dark comedy on DVD?  HOMEBODIES is the story of a group of seniors that find their apartment building under siege by a company threatening to tear it down, so they stage a series of "accidents" to save their home.  Imagine BATTERIES NOT INCLUDED without cute robots and a much darker tone, and you get the general idea.

Evening Entertainment: 1974's Mad Magazine TV Special

"Mad TV" wasn't the first time the venerable comic book that mocked everything it could took a shot at the small screen.  In 1974, they took a shot at making a pilot for a potential animated series that feels completely like the magazine in animated form, featuring cartoon adaptations of the likes of Dave Berg, Al Jaffee, Mort Drucker, Don Martin and more.  The pilot, unfortunately, led to nothing, but at least you can see it for yourself.  (Dangerous Minds has a longer write-up about the project here.)

Watch This Thing -1974 mini-documentary of an Afrocentric primary school in Los Angeles

This short documentary on the Ujamii Uhuru Schule Community Freedom School, an Afrocentric primary school in South Los Angeles, produced in 1974 by UCLA film student Don Amis is a fascinating timepiece of the Black Power movement of the era. The sole voice over comes from an employee of the school explaining the philosophies involved.
