Morning Cartoon: A TOUCH OF DECEIT, a brief animated film from 1986 directed by Michel Gagné

Gagné has since become a major animator, working on several projects for Don Bluth and Warner Bros.'s animation arm including THE IRON GIANT and AN AMERICAN TAIL, along with writing and illustrating the graphic novel "The Saga of Rex" and designing the video game "Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet."  But in 1986, he was a student at Ontario's Sheridan College, creating this clever and cute little short.

Today commemorates the 100th birthday of everyone's favorite Martian, Ray Walston, so check out the pilot episode of "Fast Times," a short-lived 1986 TV series in which Walston reprises his role of Mr. Hand from the classic FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH.  With Patrick Dempsey, Courtney Thorne-Smith and Dean Cameron as Spicoli!

Today would have marked the 98th birthday of Forrest J. Ackerman, the editor of "Famous Monsters of Filmland" and one of the men responsible for making genre fandom what it is today.  This 1986 tour of his home, which housed a countless amount of horror and science fiction memorabilia, was conducted as part of a Pasadena City College student-produced show on cable.

Today marks what would have been the 90th birthday of Les Lye, the glum-faced character actor best known for his variety of characters on Nickelodeon's "You Can't Do That on Television."  Here he is far from kids' sketch comedy, reviewing MY DINNER WITH ANDRE (and drinking) for an Ottowa-based news show.

Stephen King's short story "Battlefield," published in 1978 and reprinted in "Night Shift," was adapted for television as part of the "Nightmares and Dreamscapes" anthology series in 2006, but this was the second time the story had hit the screen. Check out this 1986 Russian animated version of the tale about espionage in the world of toys where a hitman gets a host of unfriendly tiny visitors.
